The Everglades, Vanishing Splendor - An Awakening - Photographs by Anthony Almeida

This exhibition of photographs highlights the lush landscapes, diverse species and majesty of the endangered Florida Everglades ecosystem. Over 60 large-format prints in both black and white and color are featured, as well as multi-media and music presentations. Anthony Almeida is a fine arts photographer, educator and photo-documentarian. His work has been published in New York Times Magazine, the International Herald Tribune, Black and White Magazine and Focus Fine Art Photography Magazine. He has exhibited at Salmagundi Club, Gallery 364, McKay Imaging, Soho Photo, and Henry Gregg Gallery and is in the Brooklyn Museum’s permanent collection. He has taught English, photography, and media studies in a NYC High School in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Almeida holds a M.S. in Education from Richmond College and a B.A. in English from Pace College and continued his education with Austrian-American photographer Lisette Modell. This exhibition of photographs was seven years in the making. It highlights the lush landscapes, diverse species and majesty of the threatened Florida Everglades ecosystem, which UNESCO recently designated as an endangered site. The effects of climate change which threaten the Florida Everglades will ultimately threaten coastal areas worldwide. It is Mr. Almeida’s hope that my images serve as emissaries whose mission it is to awaken you to the endless wonders of this unique imperiled land, and in a small way celebrate the beauty and majesty of that which we stand to lose — an ecosystem of infinite complexity and a vital connection with the wild and the free.
