New captain appointed to Oceanport Police Department

What you missed at the Oceanport council meeting on Feb. 17

At Thursday night’s Oceanport council meeting, Daniel W. Barcus was appointed the borough’s new police captain and administered the Oath of Office. Barcus comes from a family of law enforcement officials: his father is a retired captain and his brother is a lieutenant in another district.

Barcus replaces Buzz Baldanza, who retired from the Oceanport Police Department last fall.

  • The Borough of Oceanport determined there was a need to replace the radio dispatch console to effectuate a shared dispatch, and awarded a contract for a dispatch console in the total sum of $12,105.00 to WPCS International Inc.
  • The Borough of Oceanport authorized a tax refund for overpayment to the property owners of Block 27, Lot 5 in the sum of $4,264.66.
  • During the public workshop portion of the meeting, it was announced that the Oceanport Recreation Committee is currently considering different ways to develop the property behind the Lion’s Club.
  • The Public Works Committee announced its intention to purchase and replace damaged street signs throughout the borough.
  • A spokesperson for the Army told the council they could no longer supply speakers during Memorial Day and Labor Day festivities.
