Who's The New Mayor Of Oceanport?
The Monmouth County Clerk's Office is reviewing write-in ballots to determine if John F. Coffey II ousted incumbent Mayor Michael Mahon.

Just who won the Oceanport mayoral election on Tuesday still has to be determined, according to app.com.
It could be John F. Coffey III, who conducted a very successful write-in campaign. But Monmouth County officials still have to review the write-in votes before declaring a winner.
Republican Mayor Michael Mahon received 721 votes to Coffey’s 988 votes. Mahon has not conceded, but does not think examining the write-in ballots will change the final results.

“I’m disappointed, but not sad. I am appreciative for the opportunity to serve as mayor for eight years. I thank the voters that supported me. It’s a new chapter, a new administration and I wish them the best,” said Mahon.
Monmouth County spokesperson Laura Kirkpatrick said every write-in ballot must be examined before a winner can be declared.

“The name has to be spelled correctly,” she said. ”We’re working on it, but the time frame is not certain when it will be completed,” said Laura Kirkpatrick, Monmouth County spokesperson.
Coffey did not run under a party label, but has said he is a registered Democrat.
