3 Veteran Cops Retire In Livingston, Peers Give Them Warm Sendoff

Three police officers in Livingston recently retired after decades of combined service: Ralph Kolbusz, Michael Herbert and John Drumm.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Three local police officers in Livingston recently retired after decades of combined service to the township: Ralph Kolbusz, Michael Herbert and John Drumm.

The Livingston Police Department paid tribute to the retirees last week, offering some background about each officer’s contributions to the town:

RALPH KOLBUSZ He began his career as a police officer with the Township of Maplewood in 1999. He joined the Livingston Police Department in 2003 and has served in patrol, the ESU Team, the Detective Bureau and Community Policing Unit. He is known fondly by students in town as “Officer Ralph.”

MICHAEL HERBERT He was hired on January 1, 1989 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2020. He has served the department as PBA president, Administrative and Training Sergeant, and ESU Commander.

JOHN DRUMM He has a law enforcement career that spans over 35 years, beginning as an East Orange Police Officer and then coming to the Livingston Police Department a year later. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2017 and served as the Commander of the Traffic and Operations Division. A year later, he was promoted to Captain and served as Patrol Commander.
