5 Livingston Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

LIVINGSTON, NJ— If you’re like many of your Livingston neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Livingston area.

Here is a short list of local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday (although there are many more that also deserve highlighting!)

LIFETOWN - LifeTown is a 53,000 square foot fully inclusive and accessible center where everyone celebrates and experiences life together. It offers a myriad of opportunities for recreation, education and therapeutic play aimed at providing a comprehensive slate of programming for individuals with special abilities and their families. LIVINGSTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY - The Livingston Historical Society aims to foster wide appreciation of the development of our community from its earliest days. It strives to discover, collect, preserve, publish and exhibit materials illustrating the history of the area. The society has restored and maintains the Force Homestead Museum, which includes the Force Home and the Cookhouse/Former Slave Cabin. In 1983 the Livingston Historical Society was named Trustee of the Ely Cemetery. Learn more about this local nonprofit here.

CHILDREN'S THEATRE OF LIVINGSTON - The Children’s Theatre of Livingston offers year round programs for young children. To date, over 1400 children have had the chance to be actors, stage crew or play in the orchestra. Learn more about this local nonprofit here.

LIVINGSTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF NJ - The Livingston Symphony Orchestra of NJ fosters and maintains a community focused organization dedicated to achieving the highest aspirations of musical art; to maintain and foster an interest in and enjoyment of music; to instill in its community an interest in symphonic music by providing local concerts and education programs. SANSKRITI OF NEW JERSEY - Sanskriti of New Jersey was founded in 2008 by some of its current members who recognized a need for an organization geared towards celebration of Indian culture among its members and the wider community.
