5 Things: What To Do if Your Basement is Flooded

1. If you lose electricity and your basement is flooded, notify PSE&G (1-800-436-PSEG (7734) and call the town, (973) 992-3000, ext. zero. Stay away from the breaker box if it's in a flooded basement. Don’t go into a flooded basement if energized wires are present.

2. If water is rising to the height of any gas appliance, the gas supply to the appliance should be turned off.  If you are unable to do so, call PSE&G or the police department for assistance (again 992-3000, ext. zero). To restore gas service to appliances call PSE&G (1-800-436-7734) and have the appliances checked for safety and restored to proper operation.

3. Call PSE&G (1-800-436-PSEG (7734) immediately if you smell gas.

4. To report a power outage, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line: 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).

5. Customers with a handheld device, or who are at an alternate location with power, can also report power outages and view the status of their outage by logging in to My Account at www.pseg.com. General outage activity throughout the PSE&G service territory is available online at www.pseg.com/outagecenter and updates are posted on pseg.com.

Some Livingston residents are being told to boil their water because flooding related to the impact of Hurricane Irene contamination the Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant in Millburn. Updated information, is available at NJ American Water’s website at www.newjerseyamwater.com

As a customer of NJAWC it affects some of Livingston as follows:

• East of Cherry Hill from 280 to West Orange border.
• East of Broadlawn from Route 10 to East Cedar Street to West Orange border.
• From Sycamore east from East Northfield to West Orange border.
• South from East Northfield to Millburn border including area east of Chestnut Street
• Canoe Brook to the border of West Orange.
