📰 News we're reading

1. 3 elementary school principals are leaving this N.J. district at the same time (nj.com subscription) — Livingston families will see major leadership changes this summer, as three elementary school principals and the interim superintendent all leave at the end of the school year. The district is promoting former Livingston High School principal Mark Stern to superintendent and now must fill principal vacancies at Hillside, Burnet Hill, and Riker Hill elementary schools, which together serve many of the town’s youngest students.

2. Three Livingston Seniors Earn National Merit $2500 Scholarship Awards (tapinto.net) — Three Livingston High School seniors have earned prestigious National Merit $2500 Scholarships, highlighting the academic strength of Livingston’s Class of 2026. In all, 17 LHS students reached semifinalist status, honored inspiring Livingston Public Schools educators, and now await further scholarship announcements that could bring even more recognition to the community.

3. N.J. baseball power continues dominance, clinches share of division title (nj.com subscription) — Livingston baseball fell 10-2 at home to powerhouse Seton Hall Prep, which clinched at least a share of the Super Essex Conference American Division title with the win. Despite the loss, Livingston’s Jake Bonardi and Jaden Tang each collected two hits, while pitcher Connor Chen struck out five over four innings.

4. Most N.J. schools still struggling to recover from COVID-19 learning loss (whyy.org) — Livingston schools stand out statewide as one of the few districts labeled “on the rise” in both math and reading, even as most New Jersey students remain behind pre-pandemic levels. A new Harvard-Stanford Education Scorecard report shows grades 3–8 across the state still lag significantly, but Livingston is among a small group showing real academic recovery momentum.
