Explore the elegant connection between Chinese calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting in this engaging, hands-on workshop, in honor of AAPI (Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage) Month. Through live demonstrations, participants will see how expressive brush techniques bring both art forms to life.
Learn how brush strokes create rhythm, balance, and movement, and gain insight into the artistic principles that unite writing and painting in Chinese culture. Participants will have the opportunity to work with traditional materials, including Chinese brushes, ink, and specialty papers.
Guided by the instructor, you will practice foundational techniques and create one or two finished pieces of your own—either calligraphy or painting—to take home.
This workshop will be led by Ms. Hua Jiang, Vice President of The Calligraphers’ Association of America. She holds an MFA in Chinese Painting from Nanjing University of the Arts and has been teaching Chinese brush art throughout New York and New Jersey since 2017.
