The Arc Of Essex County To Host 20th Annual Building Tomorrows
Inclusive Event Raising Funds for Individuals with Autism, Down Syndrome, and Other Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities

The Arc of Essex County will host its 20th annual Building Tomorrows 5K Run, Family Walk, and Fun Fest on Saturday, April 28th at South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange. The inclusive event will feature a USATF-sanctioned 5K race, a fundraising walk, and an afternoon of interactive fun. All proceeds will directly benefit children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families.
The April 28th event will return to the South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange with free, convenient parking. Event check-in and all related activities will be located in The Clipper Pavilion near the Paddle Boat Launch area. Activities are scheduled as follows:
- 8:00 a.m. – 5K Registration Opens
- 9:00 a.m. – 5K Kicks Off
- 9:15 a.m. – Walk Registration Opens
- 10:00 a.m. – 5K Awards Ceremony
- 10:15 a.m. – Walk Kicks Off
- 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Fun Fest Open
“We are looking forward to hosting the 20th anniversary of our largest grassroots fundraising event in the beautiful South Mountain Recreation Complex,” said Heather Comstock, Senior Director of Development and Communication, The Arc of Essex County. “To mark this monumental milestone, we’ve arranged the largest and most interactive event to date which will celebrate the event’s 20 year history and ensure fun for the whole family.”

Event registrants are welcome to attend the Fun Fest following the USATF-sanctioned 5K Run and Family Fundraising Walk. The Fun Fest will include a range of activities including a slime station with L3 Academy, an interactive soccer clinic and giveaways with the New York Red Bulls, face painting, sand art, a cooking corner, live music by “Six Sharp,” and more.
Fun Fest admission is $5 (free to children under 5 and individuals who raise $25+). The early-bird registration fee for the USATF-sanctioned 5K race is $25 with code “early” prior to April 18. Regular run registration rates are $20 for USATF members (membership # required) or $30 standard rate. There is no minimum fee to walk; individual walkers and teams are strongly encouraged to fundraise. For additional event details or to register, visit www.runorwalk.org.
