Richard Kogan Named Chairman of St. Barnabas Board of Trustees

Former Schering-Plough CEO will assume new role on Jan. 1, 2012

Along with the new year comes changes at St. Barnabas Medical Center. On January 1, 2012, Richard J. Kogan will become the Chairman of the center’s Board of Trustees.  Kogan is presently the Vice-Chairman of the Board, and is also a Vice-Chairman of Barnabas Health, the parent organization of Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Barry Ostrowsky, President and COO of Barnabas Health praised Kogan, who has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1992. “We are thrilled that he has accepted the Chairmanship given his expertise in managing complex organizations,” he said.

“Mr. Kogan is an outstanding leader," added John Bonamo, MD, MS, Executive Director, Saint Barnabas Medical Center. "He is an experienced, knowledgeable healthcare executive and I am looking forward to working closely with him in his new expanded role.”

In the past, Kogan served the CEO of Schering-Plough Corporation, an international pharmaceutical and consumer products company.

Currently, he is the president of The KOGAN Group, LLC, which provides advice and counsel to chief executive officers of for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises. In addition, Kogan is a director of the Colgate-Palmolive Company and the Bank of New York Mellon and serves on the Board of Trustees of New York University.

His articles have appeared in various publications, including the Washington Post and Health Affairs. Kogan received his BA from City College of the City of New York, and an MBA from New York University. He has been the recipient of honorary doctorate degrees in Humane Letters and in Laws.   Mr. Kogan and his wife are long-term residents of the community.
