Blotter: Attempted Burglary at McDonald's

Also, a serious car accident sends two men to area hospitals.

Livingston police have taken into custody one male associated with an attempted burglary of the McDonald's located inside St. Barnabas Medical Center.

Early Tuesday morning, at about 2:20 a.m., police received a call from security at the hospital indicating that two males were attempting to enter the McDonald's; the security crew witnessed the men trying to break into the back door over a surveillance monitor.

When police arrived on the scene, the door was indeed broken, and the alleged robbers were still inside, but ran out as soon as officers entered, police indicate. Police chased the males and apprehended one in the parking lot, but the other fled.

Police took into custody the caught suspect, a 17-year old male from Irivington.

In other blotter reports, police responded to a serious motor vehicle accident at about 6:20 a.m. on June 12.  According to police, a 33-year male who was driving a 2001 Jeep and heading east on Route 10, near Walnut Street, collided with a a 73-year driver in a 2009 Nissan Versa.  The Jeep flipped over.

According to police, the driver of the Jeep apparently fell asleep at the wheel and woke up when his car was turned over.  The driver of the Versa indicated that the Jeep's driver drove through a red light before hitting his car.

Both men were taken to area hospitals.  The driver of the Jeep was seriously injured and the driver of the Versa sustained minor injuries.
