Irene: 30 Stories You Needed
How Patch covered Irene before, during, and after the storm.
It’s hard to imagine: Just last Saturday we were hunkering down for Hurricane Irene. Over the week, we emptied our basements to let the stuff that makes up our lives dry. About 100 streets needed to boil their drinking water. Many, many trees tumbled in the storm. Lights came back on slowly over several days and we learned to read by candle and Kindle.
We hope our live coverage of the storm and its aftermath – the power outages, water updates and damage – have been helpful to the residents of Livingston. Thank you to Livingston Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Township of Livingston for their help with providing the information we needed to report the story. This coming week, the uniformed police, and volunteers in fire, rescue and police auxiliary, and the countless township workers who braved an angry Irene will be publicly thanked for their efforts.
In Livingston, Patch contributors provided photos and news before, during and after the storm: Andy Anderson, Brian Falzarano, Phil Hoops, L. Klonsky, and Ellen Lazer. A number of Patch readers also sent news tips and photos that helped round out the stories. And we've been able to provide coverage beyond Livingston's borders thanks to the local Patch editors in Essex County and around the state.
