Getting Connected with Our Children

They must connect with them to find out what they know, how they feel and what pressures they face. If parents talk with them about drug abuse and its negative effects, it will go a long way towards winning the battle against teen drug use.

Possibly, the way to begin connecting with teens is the 7-7 rule. Spend seven minutes per day per week talking and listening to what your child is saying.  Listen with the heart as well as with the ears. By doing this, our children will feel that they have respect and will listen to what parents and other adults are saying more readily. It all begins with listening before talking.
