LHS 2010 Yearbook Crossroads is recognized for its creative "Pep Rally" layout.

The Livingston High School 2010 Crossroads Yearbook has been recognized for its creative layout of a “Pep Rally” and featured in the Josten’s2011 Gotcha Covered Look Book, “a best of the best” publication recognizing excellence in yearbook design.

The book highlights the best spreads, designs, copy, themes and photography from 400 of the top yearbooks in the country. Judges selected the Crossroads Yearbook two-page spread titled “Pep Rally,” for its “Living Through the Lens,” category.

Judges commented that “the use of green as an accent background color is inspired by the photos and visually unifies without completely covering the pages. The cut-out-background photo provides an effective focal point as the only image on the spread that isn’t a modular shape.”

Yearbook advisor Monica Cohen said she is “ecstatic” about the award. “In addition to working very hard from September to May, my yearbook class is very dedicated and they understand the extent of responsibility in creating a book of memories that will last their fellow students a lifetime,” Cohen said.  “They are also very proud of the book and the part they play in its production.”

The Crossroads was one of 400 yearbooks selected for inclusion in the Look Book out of the 3,000 submitted to a panel of judges that included national recognized scholastic journalism professionals and award-winning yearbook advisers.

Danielle Rait, the 2010 yearbook editor who is finishing her freshman year at New York University, said it is an honor for Crossroads to receive the award. “We wanted our pep rally page to completely exemplify the fun that we always had at pep rallies,” she said. “Hopefully when students look back at the yearbook, the colorful layout and vibrant pictures will always remind them of those joyous occasions.”

Yearbooks are a part of school tradition and culture, capturing stories and events for each student. “Yearbooks capture once-in-a-lifetime stories and events while showcasing yearbook staffer’s incredible design, photography and journalistic talents that ensure that these stories will be remembered for generations,” said Gary Lundgren, Josten’s senior program manager/education. “The yearbooks selected for the Jostens 2011 Gotcha Covered Look Book reflect the sophistication and relevance of yearbook programs.”
