Keep Cool at the Pool!

Livingston's public pools offer a wide range of program activities.

It’s Hot, Hot, Hot! And what better way to cool down than to spend the day at the pool. The Senior, Youth, and Leisure Services (SYLS) Department offers a wide range of activities for all the family to enjoy. Pool membership is available online through CommunityPass, in person at the Senior Community Center (204 Hillside Ave), or membership can even be purchased right at the pools.

Northland Pool located at the end of Jefferson Court offers residents a wide-range of activities from Teen Nights (June 30, July 21, August 11) to Senior Nights (July 13, August 17). Or why not try Splashercise (ages 16+), an aerobic exercise and a total body workout in the water, or the Open Swim, for people with disabilities which are held on Sunday mornings. Pre-registration is required for these activities.

“Come join us for our Teen Nights,” said Tim Roetman, Program Supervisor for Camp, Youth and Teen Programs. “We will have music, snow cones, games, and opportunities for kids to win prizes. Staff will be on hand to answer any questions regarding SYLS Summer programs including camps and pool activities. Rain dates will be the following Thursday.”

“And don’t forget the Senior Night,” added Senior and Adult Enrichment Supervisor, Liliana Branquinho. “We have entertainment with DJ Lyons, performance by SYLS Competitive Dance Team as well as ice cream, refreshments, and assorted deserts from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. And it’s free for Livingston residents!”

Haines Community Pool is located on Wahler Road next to Livingston High School. This pool offers Youth Swim classes which are available to Livingston residents’ age three and over by June 30 of the current calendar year. Students are divided into classes based on skill levels. Or try out for the Aquajets Swim Team (ages 6-18) which competes with other communities in the Northern New Jersey Suburban Swim League in a number of home and away meets. Adult Swimming Lessons are also available on Monday evenings in the lap pool. The class is open to adults 18 years and over, and will provide group instruction and teach basic swimming skills to develop confidence and competency.

Or why not just relax! Enjoy the sun, and cool off with a leisurely swim. Pool membership is available for individuals, families, and seniors. And for non-residents, Guest Badges are available on site for a slightly higher fee if not purchased at the SYLS Office.  Livingston residents may not use Guest Badges to use the pool facilities.  “And don’t forget,” said Ken Lomax, Athletics and Aquatics Supervisor.  “New pool members must provide proof of residency (driver’s license with correct address, utility bill or tax receipt)!”

Digital cards that include a photo ID are required for Pool Members. Residents need to have their picture taken at the SYLS office. “Digital cards eliminate the need to bring your card in for revalidation every year,” explained Lomax. “Just keep your card and when you renew your membership it will be reactivated for the upcoming pool season. Lost cards can be replaced for a small fee.“
