I am now ready to escape the binds that have kept me a prisoner in my own home. The nagging is going to stop, the nonstop badgering, about where are you going, when are you coming home, who are you going out with, will finally come to a halt. Free at last thank God I am free at last.
I had applied to many reach schools but it seems that they did not reciprocate and reach out for me. Although applying to 25 schools at $50 to $100 each seemed like a reasonable sum for my parents to spend on my future.
Staying in state is out of the question. Too close to home … I need some space, like a lot of space. My friends are going out of state where they go I shall follow. Well I did make a good school and chose a large metropolitan University. The drive was approximately 4.5 hours, far enough for my parents not to show up unexpected, but close enough to go home if I needed too.

The summer after high school was awesome; I guess I just grew up. My facial hair required some trimming, my toe nails needed clipping, and my chest needed a waxing. Got too look good for the last summer at home before college. Some friends decided that the right thing to do was to go down to the shore and start the decompression from home life. Some friends thought better, and said let me get a job so I can earn some beer money before I leave. My parents thought that was the right thing to do, so I opted to go to the shore for half the summer and work at Mickey D the other half.
Right after the final classes, and graduation, we got into my friends Dodge Charger, and drove down the GP to Barnegat and found the one bedroom house we rented for the 6 of us. Luckily there were two single beds, so we flipped a coin to see who would begin the rotating bed schedule with the sleeping bags and sofa. This was by itself a statistical nightmare and analytical compromise. One of us was in charge with converting the hypothetical to reality by writing the names and the days and the object of one’s sleeping arrangements. The chart looked like a chemistry test goes awry.

Well the weather for the first week was rain and more rain, I thought that the Rain in Spain lays mainly in the Plain, but it sure came down in Barnegat. Finally when the sun arose on day, the temperature was high enough for us to rid ourselves of the raunchy jeans, and put on those long knee high flowery swim shorts, that would bring you the needed attention at the beach.
Attention it did bring, but unfortunately the wrong type. We met more guys who wanted to play volley ball and football and of course a Frisbee contest. Little did I know that the sports activity and the bright colored swim suits brought us the right type and many of them? What a wonderful time we had from there on in. Practice makes perfect my mom always said, and we all practiced, a lot.
The month of July is almost over and we are heading home for our final stay, and then off to college.
I started my job at Mickey D’s in the morning shift, which wasn’t too bad. I did get to eat my favorite thing which consisted of a soft English muffin, with a piece of Canadian Bacon and one egg and a piece of American cheese on top, it was great to have that every morning along with the strong premium coffee. I thought I died and went to McHeaven to have breakfast. This was a nice place to work, I knew it was only for a few weeks, and they knew it as well.
Moving into my Dorm Room is next …
