Raining Cats and Dogs with a Chance of Meatballs

Last week, my friends on Facebook were on a roll when I asked the question: What food can you never say no to? There were over 30 responses and the answer ranged from desserts and snacks to spaghetti and meatballs.

That reminds me of the computer animated movie that was popular in 2009 called Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Do you remember that movie?

How a little island had too much sardines to eat because the world no longer had interest in sardines … in fact they hated it … now they are faced with over-supply. Everybody in town started hating sardines too and became dissatisfied. Until one day Flint, the inventor came to their rescue. Now came falling from the sky … hamburgers, ice cream, hot dogs, and big steaks … meatballs. You have to watch the movie to find out the ending.

It sets me thinking about our country’s real estate, mortgage and lending environment. Consumers are not really in a spending mood when it comes to big ticket items. Lenders are not readily opening their doors to buyers. Yet each day, when I go to the grocery stores, restaurants or fast food places … there will be a line.

The basic necessity of mankind is still important … regardless of the economy. We need food, clothing and a roof over our head … just in case it rains like cats and dogs (an English idiom referring to heavy rain) ... whatever point of view we might have about the state of our economy, even if it feels like gloomy and rainy … these three necessities reign.

Food: Whenever we ask a question about food on Facebook, we get the most response. We all like to eat and we need to eat to survive. My daughter and I love to cook together. Please email me if you want our favorite recipe. We will send it to you.

Home prices are raised a little more if the kitchen is updated and fully equipped. Does not matter if you are in Livingston or elsewhere … why? We need a well equipped kitchen to cook and eat comfortably and efficiently with friends and family.

Clothing: When it is back to school time, parents and children take time to shop for the new school year. We need warm clothes for winter and some teens would not want to feel left out with last year’s attire … they must have the new.

Shelter: Buying and maintaining a home takes most of our daily expenses. Yet without it, human kind will not have a sense of security. Even during the beginning of time, man lived in caves.
