Car Stolen While Parked Outside Synagogue In Livingston

Livingston police responded to one car theft on Saturday and arrested a man later that day in connection with another vehicle theft.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A car was stolen while parked at a Livingston synagogue on Saturday, police said.

Police said that a man came to police headquarters at 12:31 p.m. on Oct. 14 to say that his car was missing. He said he had parked his BMW X5 earlier that day in the parking lot of Congregation Etz Chaim, and when he returned, it was gone.

The vehicle had been left unlocked with its key fob inside of it, police said. The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating.

Arrest In Connection With Stolen U-Haul

Meanwhile, police were able to arrest a man later that day in connection with another stolen vehicle.

At 6:36 p.m., police found a stolen U-Haul van parked on the side of the road in front of 69 East Northfield Road, where businesses are located. It had been taken from Newark, police said.

Police said the operator of the vehicle, Rasheed Everett, 34, of Newark, was then found and "resisted officers as they attempted to place him under arrest."

He was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property.

Everett was given a summons and released, pending a court date.
