Carbon Monoxide Detectors Sound Off
A log of the calls the Fire Department answered from November 3-9.

The Livingston Fire Department responded to a number of routine calls this past week from November 3-9. Here's a sampling of what caused concern:
Tuesday, November 3: Department responded to call from a resident on Chelsea Drive regarding a fire alarm transmission. Nothing was found to be activated in the residence.
Wednesday, November 4: Firefighters responded to a call from Hudson City Savings Bank at 232 South Livingston Avenue about a water flow alarm transmission. The building was checked but nothing was found to be activated and the bank manager was informed to notify the sprinkler company to check system.

Thursday, November 5: The department responded to a call from a Prospect Road resident about a fire alarm transmission and system malfunction. The system was reset by the homeowner.
Friday, November 6: Homeowner on Downing Place had an electrical problem with a power strip which caused it to burn. Power cord was disconnected.

Saturday, November 7: Firefighters responded to six calls.
Resident on Badger Drive reported the carbon monoxide alarm sounded. Firefighters checked the home but did not find a reading; PSE& G was notified as a precaution.
Call from 615 South Livingston Avenue because water flow at residence activated fire alarm. The entire building was checked but no problem was found.
Report of smoke at home on East Sherbrooke Parkway from cooking. The home was vented and the alarm system reset prior to the department's arrival.
Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Route 10 and Winans Road. A small fire in engine compartment was found, but damage was confined and the fire was extinguished.
Another fire alarm transmission, this time at home on Baker Road. System checked, no problem found.
A gasoline hose was pulled from a fuel pump at the Getty gas station at 124 East Mount Pleasant Avenue. Firefighters assisted gas station workers; no leak found.
Sunday, November 8: The carbon monoxide detector at a home on Bearbrook Lane was activated. The department did not find a reading, but advised homeowner to replace old detector.
Firefighters responded to a small brush fire on Route 280 westbound at Center Island. Fire was extinguished upon arrival. The Roseland Fire Department had responded.
Monday, November 9: The department made four calls.
A landscaper's leaf truck struck the drive-thru overhang at Valley National Bank at 270 South Livingston Avenue, causing minor damage to overhang. The Fire Department did not take action.
Resident at Binghampton Lane reported smoke due to a burned-out washing machine belt. The power was disconnected to the machine and the gas was shut off.
A carbon monoxide detector at home on Hickory Lane sounded due to homeowner changing battery. No problem found.
Another carbon monoxide detector activated at home on Timberhill Road. Battery was changed and house was checked. No meter reading found.
