ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — It’s not just about comic books any more.

A Newark-born comic, movie and gaming convention that celebrates Black creators and people of color is spreading its wings to Livingston this year: the 7th annual Khem Fest.

It’s rare that a comic book convention comes to Essex County, let alone one that spotlights minority writers, artists and entertainers. But by showcasing people of color and their backgrounds, organizers PBS Media and Musuyanama Women’s group hope to make new connections between fans and promote Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) opportunities for minorities.
