Community Safety Day at Livingston Mall
Multiple law enforcement agencies return for annual event
Simon’s Livingston Mall is inviting area families to learn about public safety and get up-close and personal with local, county, state and federal law enforcement as it hosts Community Safety Day on Saturday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“On behalf of the Essex County Crime Prevention Officers Association, we would like to extend an invitation to the public to join us for our opening ceremony at 11:00 am in Center Court,” commented Officer Gary Mankowitz, president of the Essex County Crime Prevention Officers Association. “During the ceremony, two Police Officers will be honored for their crime prevention efforts. We encourage the public to come out and get to know and unite with our Law Enforcement Community.”
Also known as the Police and Public Safety Expo, the annual event will be presented by the Essex County Crime Prevention Officers Association (ECCPOA) as a way to better educate the community about various police and emergency service operations with an emphasis on public safety.

In the mall’s parking lot, an ambulance, fire truck, mobile crime scene unit, SWAT truck and several police vehicles will be on display allowing attendees to explore them. A New Jersey State Police Helicopter will also be on the grounds after making a grand entrance between 12 and 12:30 p.m., landing in the parking lot. There will be safety programs such as the interactive Saint Barnabas Fire Safety House, a station that will help create a child identification card and a car seat installation station where experts will actually check car seats to ensure they are installed properly. In addition, there will be musical entertainment along with fun activities for kids, including a Simon Kidgits Club bounce house, as well as a meet and greet with costumed characters Batman and the Batmobile, Joker and Wonder Woman.
“As always, we are pleased to host this event focusing on safety and helping the public better understand how our local, county, state and federal law enforcement works,” said Robert Edelen, mall manager for Livingston Mall. “I know each year how much the ECCPOA enjoys this opportunity to build relationships between the community and law enforcement officers as well.”
