Don't TXT: Livingston Police Crack Down On Distracted Drivers
The Livingston police have stepped up patrols this month as part of a state and national campaign against distracted driving.
LIVINGSTON, NJ —Don't TXT and drive, the Livingston police want to remind residents.
The police said last week that they've increased patrols in April for National Distracted Driver Awareness Month, and they wanted to remind residents of certain safety rules.
The state of New Jersey has also taken part this week in a nationwide enforcement campaign, "UDrive. UText. UPay."

Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz said, "Statistics are trending in the wrong direction. Our commitment to enforce distracted driving laws here in Livingston serves to reduce serious crashes and protect the citizens of this community. Studies show that tickets significantly reduce crashes and non-fatal injuries, so that's why this nationwide campaign is enforcement driven.”
Chief Marshuetz issued an additional reminder that radar speed enforcement will continue.

“Our officers continue to enforce speed limits and aggressive driving on all roads in the township," he said. "Speeding and/or aggressive driving is a choice. Speed limits are put in place to protect all road users. We are trying to save lives and reduce deaths on New Jersey roads."
He noted, "If a speeding driver is tailgating you or trying to engage you in risky driving, use judgment to safely steer your vehicle out of the way. Call the police if you believe a driver is following you or harassing you.”
The chief said, “Our Traffic Bureau officers are busy responding to complaints, but we need more cooperation from the public. The message is simple: when behind the wheel, please obey speed limits, focus on the primary task of driving, and avoid driver behavior that is unsafe.”
