Dreidl Drop: Hoboken Will Hold Menorah Lighting For Hanukkah Sunday

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hanukkah begins at sundown Sunday, and Hoboken's preparing for the annual menorah lighting.

The lighting will take place at Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St., on Sunday, Dec. 18. at 5 p.m.

The event, hosted with Chabad, will feature "a gelt and parachute dreidel drop from a firetruck. Latkes, donuts, and more! Free and open to the community."
Hanukkah is the Hebrew word for dedication. The eight-day observance commemorates the Jews rising up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors, who wanted to suppress their religion and worship. The Jewish Maccabean Revolt took place in Second Century B.C.
