Earth Day In Essex County: Free Family-Friendly Event For 2024
The free event will include hands-on educational games and activities, canoe trips, bird walks, live music and an "eco-market."
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County will hold its annual Earth Day celebration for 2024 on Saturday, April 20.
The free, family-friendly event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Essex County Environmental Center, 621B Eagle Rock Avenue in Roseland. It will include hands-on educational games and activities, canoe trips, bird walks, environmental information booths, live nature-themed music and an “eco-market,” organizers said.
Admission is free but merchandise from vendors will be for sale.

According to a news release from the county:
“The Environmental Center Staff has worked with partner agencies to present an Earth Day event that will appeal to all ages. There will be nature walks, a rock climbing wall, live music, face painting and nature arts and crafts. The New Jersey Woodturners will demonstrate how art is created from found pieces of wood and fallen tree branches. Learn about ways to protect the environment or go on a canoe ride. (Canoe ride availability will be weather dependent.) The 4-H Club will present its Annual Fair and there will be a local eco-vendors’ sale. There will be presentations by Essex County Turtle Back Zoo, the Essex County Beekeepers, the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex County, Montclair Art Museum Eco-Art and a Mad Science Kids Corner.”
“Earth Day gives us a special time to appreciate our world and reminds us of the importance of keeping our air and water clean,” Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. said.

“We invite the public to come out and learn how they can interact with nature and become better environmental stewards,” he added.
The event is co-sponsored by PSE&G, Covanta, Montclair State University and Giulietta & Romeo Pizzeria and Restaurant.
