In Essex County: Crimes of 'Love' in the Digital Age

For most people, the Internet is a way to exchange information and stay in touch with the ones that we love.

But for a few, it’s a weapon.

On Friday, May 29, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, through their Offices of Victim-Witness-Advocacy, will host a public seminar to assist residents who have fallen victim to “cyber crime.”

The free, public program will be aimed at victims who have been abused, threatened, harassed, or exploited in this manner as a result of intimate partner violence.

Topics will include:

• Emerging risks associated with digital technology
• Cyber-spying and stalking
• Social networking
• Electronic communications and its impact on personal safety and criminal investigations

The half-day seminar will be held on the 14th floor of the Leroy Smith Public Safety Building, 50 West Market St., Newark. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the program beginning promptly at 9 a.m.
