An honor flag guard from the scouts will open the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Livingston High School choral group singing the National Anthem. The invocation will be delivered by Rabbi Clifford Kulwin of Temple B’nai Abraham. Livingston Mayor, Steve Santola will welcome our guests and give a description and the meaning of the garden’s design. The octagonal design has each side dedicated to a Livingston resident who died in the attack on the World Trade Center. The eighth side is in memory of all others who perished in the attack. A plaque at the garden entrance lists the names of all Livingston residents who died that day: Luke A.Dudek, Jeffrey Brian Gardener, Donald Thomas Junes II, Ming-Hao Liu, Joseph McDonald, John M. Pocher, and Kenneth Albert Zelman. During the ceremony, Livingston Girl Scouts will place a rose on the center monument while township Manager Michele Meade reads each of the names. Vietnam Veteran, Brian Boyle will toll the bell.
“Let There Be Peace on Earth” will be sung by the chorus under the direction of Joshua Salzman, as well as “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
Following the benediction given by Father Brian Needles of St. Philomena’s Church, Tim Griffin and his daughter, Gabby will play Taps. The audience is asked to join the chorus by singing God Bless America.
This ceremony will take place rain or shine (a tent will be setup). Parking is available at St. Philomena’s and the Town Hall Parking lots. Bring your family, neighbors, and friends to share this important event. Livingston cares and never forgets.
