Dinner in the Sukkah at B’nai Abraham

In the celebration of the Sukkot holiday, Temple B’nai Abraham will hold Dinner in the Sukkah sponsored by the TBA Social Action Committee/Green Team and Sisterhood. Join us for an engaging lecture with guest speaker Cynthia Mellon, Community & Environmental Justice Organizer for the Ironbound Community Corporation of Newark. Ironbound Community Corporation’s mission is to engage and empower individuals, families and groups in realizing their aspirations and, together, work to create a just, vibrant and sustainable community. Ms. Mellon will speak on Environmental Justice, the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

Temple B’nai Abraham adheres to the highest possible standard of environmental sustainability as an institution and as an agent for change among congregants and the greater community.  In September 2010, the congregation entered the two-year GreenFaith Environmental Certification Program  with the goal of assessing our activities, facilities and programs to appreciate what steps we are taking to reduce our carbon footprint and discover new ways to improve and educate ourselves about environmental issues. B’nai Abraham’s Green Team is leading the comprehensive, multi-step certification process, focusing on the four areas set forth by GreenFaith: Spirit, Stewardship, Communication and Environmental Justice. Green Team members are working with congregational leaders and staff to evaluate our current status and formulate strategies that will improve our performance in each area.

Join us for this interesting evening which includes a special organic meal. Open to the community.
