The Livingston Library has invited local author Gerda Bikales to share her experiences and read from her memoir “Through the Valley of the Shadow of Death: A
Holocaust Childhood” on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Livingston Public Library.
Her talk is being given in remembrance of Kristallnacht, the November 1938 deadly attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions throughout Germany that marked the start of
the Holocaust.
After narrowly surviving the Holocaust, Gerda Bikales came to America as a teenager.
Studying part-time while raising a family, she earned an advanced degree a Masters
degree in Social Welfare from Rutgers University.

Mrs. Bikales has worked as a writer, lobbyist, and association executive for non-profit organizations. She is a Co-chair of the Committee on the Future of Holocaust Remembrance, and together with husband Norbert lives in Livingston.
