Monday at the Movies: The King's Speech

If you missed The King's Speech in theaters, you can see it on the big screen at Livingston Public Library on Monday, May 16th. There is a matinee at 1:00 pm and an evening show at 7:00 PM.

It is the story of King George VI of Britain, his impromptu ascension to the throne and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch become worthy of it.

The film was nominated for 12 Academy Awards, and won 4, including Colin Firth for Best Actor, and Best Picture. It is rated R for some profanity and runs 118 minutes.

The Library’s Monday at the Movies series features newer films once a month, with both an afternoon and evening show. The Social Network is the next selection for June 13. Monday at the Movies will take a break in July and August, but will return in September.

Classic Films are also shown on one Wednesday evening a month. They include black and white classics from Hollywood’s golden era in the 1930s and 1940s, as well as other films. Desk Set and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof were already shown in “Featuring the Fifties.” The Band Wagon, starring Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse and Nanette Fabray, will be shown at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 15.
