Monday at the Movies: Mao's Last Dancer

Livingston Library Monday at the Movies series will feature foreign films this season. The series will begin with Mao's Last Dancer on September 19, with a 1:00 PM matinee and a 7:00 evening show. All films are shown with English subtitles.

Directed by Australian director Bruce Beresford, Mao’s Last Dancer is a drama based on the autobiography by Li Cunxin. At the age of 11, Li was plucked from a poor Chinese village by Madame Mao's cultural delegates and taken to Beijing to study ballet. In 1979, during a cultural exchange to Texas, he fell in love with an American woman. Two years later, he managed to defect and went on to perform as a principal dancer for the Houston Ballet and with the Australian Ballet.
