Many parents - and especially the parents of children with special needs - face unique challenges when it comes to behavior. Whether your child is a boundary-tester or simply can’t stay in her seat at school, behaviors can become a tremendous obstacle to learning.
Over the last few years, our schools have begun adding highly trained behaviorists to the staff. Kristen Bratkowski is a Behavior Specialist based at Burnet Hill Elementary School who offers behavioral strategies for students throughout the district that lead to classroom success.
Join us on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 7:00pm as Ms. Bratkowski explains:

- ABA? BCBA? BC-ABA? What do all these abbreviations mean??
- What is the behaviorist’s role in the district?
- How is a behavioral concern identified in the classroom? When would these warrant Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)?
- What types of behavioral interventions and programs are used in our classrooms?
- How can parents reinforce these programs at home? Are there practical strategies parents can implement at home? Are these included in the behavioral plan?
- What are some of the things that can sabotage a behavioral plan? (Sleep? Diet? Environment? Sensory Issues?)
- When and why might a child require a reassessment?
All of these questions will be answered at this special event. Refreshments will be served.
