Summit Symphony Young Artists Concert

SUMMIT - The Summit Symphony will present its final concert of the season on Sunday, May 20, at 3:00pm, at the Summit High School, on Kent Place Blvd.  The orchestra, under the direction of James Sadewhite, will perform the Symphony No. 9 in E minor by Dvorak as well as portions of the Cello Concerto in D major by Haydn, the Violin Concerto in D major by Tchaikovsky and the Variations on a Rococo Theme by Tchaikovsky.  A pre-concert lecture, given by Maestro Sadewhite, will begin at 2:15 in the auditorium.

The featured soloists for this concert will be the winners of the Summit Symphony’s 2012 Young Artist Competition. The winners this year are cellist Kelly Liang of Somerset, cellist Zachary Mowitz of Princeton and violinist Amy Zhang of Livingston. 

Ms. Liang is a sophomore at Rutgers Prep School. She has studied with Ann Alton and Yu-Chen Chao. She attends the Julliard School pre-college division and will perform Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme

Mr. Mowitz is a sophomore at Princeton High School.  He currently studies with Priscilla Lee.  He is the cellist in the Snitzer Quartet, one of the Advanced Studies Scholarship Groups at Philadelphia’s Settlement Music School.  He will perform parts of the Concerto for Cello in D major by Haydn. 

Ms. Zhang is a junior at Livingston High School and is a violin student of Naoko Tanaka.  She also attends the Julliard School pre-college division and will perform parts of the Concerto for Violin in D major by Tchaikovsky.

This concert has been funded by the Summit area Public Foundation and the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
