Topic: The State of the Jewish Nation : What can history teach us about the "state" of the Jewish nation today-in Israel and the Diaspora- and what we must do next?

Professor Myers, chair of the Department of History at UCLA, is the leading Jewish historian of his generation. A specialist in Jewish intellectual history, he has recently focus his efforts on he calls "Applied Jewish Studies," the use of scientific study of the Jewish past to "inform and illuminate contemporary debates."

Prof. Myers graduated from Yale University and, after graduate work at Tel Aviv University and Harvard University, received his Ph.D. with highest distinction from Columbia University. He has been on the faculty of UCLA since 1991. For a decade he directed UCLA’s Center for Jewish Studies. In 2011, he became the first specialist in Jewish history to chair one of the top university history departments in North America.

Prof. Myers is the author of numerous books and dozens of scholarly articles, and has held visiting appointments at the University of Pennsylvania, the Russian State University for the Humanities in Moscow, and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.
