Fire Log: Faulty Stoves and False Alarms

List of calls for past week.

Livingston's Fire Department responded to numerous for week of April 6-12.

Tuesday, April 6: 4 Calls

  • Fire alarm transmission system at residence on Pebble Beach Drive activated due to burned food.  No action taken.
  • Fire alarm transmission in residence on Aspen Drive sounded when contractor working in lower activated it because of dust from construction.  System not reset.
  • Fire detector on third floor of residence on Deal Lane activated as result of malfunction.  System not reset, caretaker advised.
  • Request for LPD to assist with individual in residence on Belmont Drive who fell in the bathroom and was blocking the door.  FD Ladder used to gain entry and assisted homeowner, who was transported to St. Barnabas.

Wednesday, April 7: 6 calls

  • Alarm at Livingston Water Pollution Control Facility activated due to malfunction.  Call was cancelled prior to FD's arrival.
  • Small area of mulch smoldering on front lawn in residence on Camelot Drive.  Area was wet down.
  • Fire alarm activation as result of burned food in residence on Mansfield Court.  Home was vented and alarm reset.
  • Fire alarm activation at residence on Mounthave Drive as result of burned food.
  • Smoke detector system activated at resident on Pebble Beach Drive as result of a faulty detector.  Homeowner advised to have detector replaced.
  • Fire alarm transmission at residence on Chelsea Drive.  Site checked, no problem was found.  System was reset.

Thursday, April 8: 4 calls

  • CO alarm was activated at residence on Rumson Road.  Home was checked with department's meter,  no reading found.  Battery was replaced.
  • Homeowner on Beaufort Avenue pulled gas stove away from wall and small leak in flex line.  FD turned off gas at valve, area vented and homeowner was advised.  
  • Fire alarm transmission at residence on Cherry Hill Road, system malfunction and reset.
  • Fire alarm transmission at Macy's in the Livingston Mall.  Activation as result of power outage in area.

Saturday, April 10: 1 call

  • Fire alarm transmission at home on Wynnewood Road.  System malfunction and reset.

Sunday, April 11: 4 calls

  • Fire alarm transmission at home on Canoe Brook Road as result of burned food.  Alarm was reset.
  • Mulch fire at residence on Fredon Drive as result of exterior spot light's being covered.  Area was wet down.
  • Fire alarm transmission at home on E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue as result of gas powered saw being used in basement.  Building was vented.
  • Problem with electric wall oven in home on Forest Avenue.  Power was shut off to unit and homeowner advised to have unit checked.

Monday, April 12: 7 calls

  • Kushner Academy Fire alarm transmission;  call was cancelled prior to FD arrival.
  • Fire alarm transmission at home on Ridgewood Drive.  Call cancelled prior to arrival.
  • Homeowner on Tanglewood Drive had a water pipe break under rear deck.  Water was shut off at interior valve.
  • Homeowner on Eastbrook Terrace slid down embankment and fell approximately 15 feet into the brook.  Access to victim was gained through rear yard on Woodcrest Drive.  Victim was removed from brook and transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital by LFAS.
  • Gas grill fire at residence on Highland Drive.  Control knob was broken and gas was shut off to unit.  Owner advised to have unit replaced.
  • Gas odor in kitchen in residence on Brookside Place.  Kitchen was checked with meter, no reading was found. 
  • Fire alarm transmission in home on Canterbury Road.  Call was cancelled prior to arrival.
