Firefighters Answer the Call of the Wild for Charity

Livingston firefighters -- on skies -- raise money for Burn Center.

Livingston firefighters answered a different kind of call on Thursday when they took to the slopes in a charity event for the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation.

Thanks to John Anderson, one of the volunteers in the Auxiliary group, who sans skies was able to videotape the 24 seconds it took our local firefighters to ski down the mountain. It wasn’t a typical run for the firefighters: Five guys, wearing helmets and turnout coats, carrying 50 feet of fire hose – and yeah, doing it all while skiing a slalom course.

It’s all for a good cause, as more than 40 departments turned out to support the Burn Center at the Hidden Valley Ski Area in Vernon. More than $250,000 has been raised for the Saint Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston, which provides burn care, post care and support for burn victims and their families, burn education classes for school children, safety and education events for adults, and training for firefighters across the state.
