SPRING BREAK IN NJ

A new state law involving New Jersey schools will make it easier for families to coordinate their spring break plans, supporters say.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill recently signed S-170/A-5167 into law after its passage in the Assembly and Senate. The legislation requires the state commissioner of education to recommend spring break dates for local schools every year.

Each district would have to consider the state’s recommendation when making their yearly calendars, but would also be allowed to use its own dates if it decides otherwise.

The law will take effect for the 2027-2028 academic year.
