Flood Watch Issued For Essex County Into Tuesday Morning Amid Nor'easter

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — An intense period of rain was predicted for Monday night as a nor'easter bears down on the Northeast, and the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch and a Coastal Flood Advisory for Essex County.

The flood watch runs from 10 p.m. Monday night through 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.

As much as 1-2 inches of rain was predicted for after 9 p.m. Monday. A similar circumstance last year during Tropical Depression Ida caused intense flooding in North Jersey, although more than 7 inches fell in some areas.

The prediction for the area near Essex County Airport in Caldwell says:

"Rain, mainly after 8 p.m. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 40. Breezy, with an east wind 14 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible."

The Coastal Flood Advisory from 9 p.m. Monday to 1 a.m. says:

"One to locally two feet of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.

"Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is expected in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding. A few spots may see moderate flooding with road closures, flooded vehicles, and basement flooding."
