FREE Eye Screening

January is National Eye Care Month, and the Livingston Health Department is offering FREE eye screenings! Join us Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in lower level of the Senior/Community Center located at 204 Hillside Avenue in Livingston. During this event The NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (www.nj.gov/humanservices/cbvi/home) will be attending and providing FREE eye screening services. To attend, register in advance by calling our Nursing Division at 973-535-7961 x226, 227 or 228.

Many people can go unaware or undiagnosed for several types of serious eye conditions. According to the American Glaucoma Society (AGS), Glaucoma “is one of the leading causes of blindness and the leading cause of preventable blindness” and may not show symptoms until the “final stages”. The AGS reports that “at least 3 million of Americans suffer from Glaucoma” and many may not even know they have it. Be proactive and take charge of your eye health! Remember, screenings are very important for both monitoring and maintaining good eye health. Screenings can help to ensure your eyes and you are as healthy as possible throughout your lifetime.

In addition, please take note that the Livingston Health Department Nursing Division in cooperation with New Eyes for the Needy will be sponsoring a Prescription Glasses Drop Off. Please bring in any old or no longer needed prescription glasses to donate to those less fortunate. The Livingston Health Department Nursing Division and the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired join in encouraging all of our local residents to take advantage of this FREE screening service and optional glasses donation drive.
