Free Program For Livingston And Millburn Residents To Quit Smoking, Vaping

The local health department is inviting Livingston and Millburn/Short Hills residents to a free smoking cessation program, including vaping.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Health Department in conjunction with Atlantic Health will be hosting a free six-session program that is meant to help participants
quit smoking and stay smoke free. It also includes vaping and tobacco products.

The program will be held on Mondays, Jan. 9, 2023 to Feb. 13, 2023 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave., Livingston.

It will be held in Tahaney Room 1. But the session on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023 will be held virtually on Zoom, as will any sessions that need to be switched to virtual due to snow/bad weather.

Zoom meeting information will be provided for any virtual sessions upon registration.

Participants will be assessed individually by a tobacco treatment specialist and will
meet for six weekly group meetings to learn the skills to help them quit and stay
smoke free. Nicotine replacement products will also be provided at no cost and, if
needed, medication recommendations will be given to help with quitting.

Arrangements will be made for participants to still receive NRT for planned virtual sessions.

The Health Department said, "Some benefits participants can expect when they quit include breathing easier, enjoying improved health, saving money, and having more energy. This program is open to adults who use any of the following products; cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco (chew, dip, snuff, snus), waterpipes (hookah, shisha), pipes, and e-cigs/vapes."
