
It was a dark and stormy night. So dark and stormy on Saturday, in fact, that Livingston Police closed flooded roads and helped stranded motorists every few minutes during a three-hour stretch, according to Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold.
With this week, students are hoping for a break from these April showers. Unfortunately, they won't be seeing sunny skies until later in the week: Rain is predicted for the next two days, according to the National Weather Forecast for Livingston.
Saturday’s storm started slowly with cold rain that cancelled some sports events and saw parents shivering at the Lion’s spring . By nightfall, Livingston and the surrounding area saw thunder, lightning, and scattered power outages.

By 9 p.m., Livingston Police began receiving a “high volume of calls,” Dippold said, many relating to flooding and cars stalled in water when motorists tried to drive through the flooded streets.
The National Weather Service reported that Newark Airport measured 2.39 inches of rain. Accuweather.com suggested that some areas received upwards of three inches, making for soggy yards, playing fields and basements.

In Livingston, police reported flooding in the neighborhood near Mt. Pleasant School and along South Orange Avenue and the reservation. Parsonage Hill Road in Millburn was closed over night and most of Sunday because of flooding.
