Known Package Thief, 'Grinch,' Arrested In Essex County; Christmas Saved
The Verona police drew cheers after posting a video of officers bringing the classic Seuss character into custody.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — With enough potential hazards this holiday season that might get in the way of celebrating Christmas — including shipping delays and the pandemic — one Police Department in Essex County has eliminated a possible threat, and spread joy in the process.
The Verona Police Department posted this video over the weekend of their the "Grinch" from the 1957 Dr. Seuss classic, "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas." It inspired laughter and lots of positive reactions.

"This is so funny," wrote one commenter. "This can't be for real. This is a joke, right?"

Seuss once explained in Redbook how his classic book — about a lonely green monster who's soured on the holiday, until a little girl warms his heart — came about: "I wrote the story about my sour friend, the Grinch, to see if I could rediscover something about Christmas that obviously I'd lost."
