Hearing Doctors of NJ to Sponsor Alzheimer's Walk

The Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey Chapter (AAGNJ) is spotlighting our generous sponsor organizations that are making a difference in the fight to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia, by participating in the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s (WTEA) - the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Today we say thank you to Dr. Rhee Nesson, AuD, CCC-A, of Hearing Doctors of New Jersey in Livingston, a first-time sponsor of the upcoming 2024 Essex-Hudson-Union Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sunday, September 29 at South Mountain Recreation Complex – Clipper Pavilion, in West Orange.

Dr. Nesson’s extraordinary passion and dedication to helping all those affected by the disease has inspired and motivated others to get involved. The funds raised by her effort, and others, help to propel the Association’s mission forward - accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

“Community partners like Dr. Nesson are the change drivers. The Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey Chapter (AAGNJ) is committed to collaborating with our community partners to create a safety net around those impacted by dementia", said chapter executive director, Cheryl Ricci-Francione. "We provide a vast array of resources and educational programs to New Jersey residents, all at no cost. On September 19th, Dr. Nesson is hosting a free luncheon seminar at The Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange, from 10:30am-12pm. The community is invited to attend and learn about The Early Treatment of Hearing Loss - the Most Modifiable Risk Factor for Preventing Dementia. Speakers include, Dr. Nesson, Cheryl Ricci-Francione and Dr. Keith Darrow, PhD, CCC-A, a MIT and Harvard trained Neuroscientist and Clinical Audiologist. Dr. Nesson explains, “The reason I chose to align with the Alzheimer's Association is because my grandmother passed away from dementia over 10 years ago. She also had hearing loss and for reasons beyond my control she stopped wearing her hearing aids and I saw her fade into a shadow of who she once was. I knew then, long before the research came out, that there was a connection between untreated hearing loss and cognitive decline. When I founded Hearing Doctors of New Jersey, I developed a proprietary treatment program that treats the cognitive aspects of hearing loss based on cutting edge research and testing protocols to help people stop struggling and constantly saying "what". My team and I do this because if we can help prevent another family from going through what mine did, I've done my job. I want to help prevent the dementia epidemic that is growing across our country by medically treating hearing loss.”

More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 that cannot be cured, prevented, or even slowed. Additionally, more than 11 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In New Jersey alone, there are nearly 190,000 people living with the disease and 272,000 caregivers.
