The Heritage Middle School Girls Softball team finished their rain-soaked season by defeating the Pequannock Middle School Panthers 8-7 to be crowned the Greater Morris County Junior Schools Coaches Association champions for the second year in a row.
The girls went 8-2 in the regular season. In the playoffs, with wins over Ridgedale and East Hannover, the Heritage team earned a chance at the title against a very strong Pequannock team.
In an exciting, pressure-filled game that took an extra inning to decide, the Eagles came from behind to tie the game then took the lead in extra innings, scoring two runs in the top half of the inning. The Panthers came back in the bottom half of the inning scoring one run and were threatening with runners in scoring positions when the Eagle pitching and defense held to secure the win.
