Wind Gusts, Heavy Rain Predicted For Essex County

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — After a storm spawned tornadoes and other extreme weather in Texas and New Orleans earlier this week, the National Weather Service is predicting wind gusts and hours of rainfall for North Jersey on Wednesday into Thursday. READ MORE: Colossal Storm System Brewing

For Essex County, the NWS predicts up to 1.75 inches of rain over two days. While that's not as much as the 7 inches or more that fell in North Jersey during Hurricane Ida (and in a much shorter time period), it's a significant rainfall.

The forecast for Wednesday into Thursday in Essex County is:

Wednesday Night: Rain, mainly after 9 p.m.. Low around 38. East wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday: Rain. High near 54. Northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Rain, mainly before 3 a.m., then a chance of showers after 3 a.m. Low around 45.
Northeast wind around 7 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
