LHS Students Named National Merit Scholarship Finalists
Students are honored for their academic achievements at Livingston High School.

Eleven Livingston High School seniors have been selected as National Merit Scholarship finalists: Andrea Cao, Mayer Chalom, Stephanie Chan, Sharon Chen, Yijing Chen, Justine Jang, Krishan Kania, Katherine Lee, Alexander Nie, Xin Xu and Lucy Zhou.
The finalists were named from about 16,000 semi-finalists in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $32 million to be offered in the spring. "We were optimistic that our students would advance and become finalists and we are grateful that their academic efforts in school have been recognized,” said LHS Principal Mark Stern.
About 90 percent of the semi-finalists advanced to finalist status and more than half of those will win National Merit Scholarships. Finalists had to submit detailed scholarship applications, be recommended by high school officials, write essays and score highly on the SAT.
