Livingston 13U Fall to Caldwell's Attack

Chiefs steal six bases in win on Saturday.

The Caldwell 13U baseball team used a balance of disciplined hitting, aggressive base running and strong pitching to defeat Livingston 6-1 Saturday morning in the Essex County Suburban League playoffs at James Caldwell High School.

Starter Tommy Guiliano struck out eight and gave up no earned runs.

Caldwell, which stole six bases, took an early 1-0 lead when Hunter Smith drove in Jake Zimmerman, who reached with a one-out single and then stole second.

Livingston responded in the third inning to tie the game and threatened to take the lead by placing runners on second and third, but Caldwell picked off the runner at third to end the threat.

Caldwell then surged ahead for good in the bottom of the frame as Smith, Guiliano and Steve Puzzo each drove in runs.

Sonny Bartell added an RBI and Zimmerman scored on an error to round out the scoring.
