This Essex County Family Had 3 Boys. All Are Now Dead.

The last of three boys in a N.J. family was shot dead this week. The other two were shot and killed, too.

Tyquan Rogers was one N.J. family’s last hope. Both his brothers were shot dead.

Now he’s gone, too. The same way.

Now, two days after the murder, a family is mourning for a third time in five years. And friends say it’s tougher than ever, since the family still remains in mourning over the other two boys.

Authorities are now investigating the latest shooting homicide involving the Rogers’ family that occurred Monday evening in Newark at approximately 7:15 p.m.,

Newark police officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress in the 200 block of South 11th Street. Arriving officers located an unresponsive Rogers lying on the sidewalk at this location, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The victim, who was suffering from gunshot wounds, was rushed to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Rogers, 20, of Newark, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor’s Homicide.

Rogers was the brother of two men, Anthony Rogers and Antoine Rogers, who were shot and killed in Newark in 2011 and 2012, respectively, Essex County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly confirmed to nj.com.

Mayor Ras Baraka called the latest death “heartbreaking” in a Youtube video of a recent council appearance.

“This morning...I had to go to a resident’s home who I’ve known for a very, very long time as she cried on the floor,” he said.

“We desperately need to do something different about what’s happening in the city,” he said.

This latest incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, according to Fennelly, who added that the investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
