Livingston-Based Briad Group Must Pay $40 Million For TGI Fridays Stabbing
One of the company's California locations served an underage man who fatally stabbed another patron later that night.

TGI Fridays, the national restaurant chain owned by the Livingston-based Briad Group, must pay $40 million to the family of 33-year-old Orlando Jordan, who was stabbed to death in 2009 by an underage drinker at one of the restaurant’s California locations.
Last week a South California jury ruled that the restaurant group was responsible for “serving the equivalent of 12 alcohol servings in 30 minutes” to 20-year-old Michael Castillo, despite the fact that staff never checked his ID.
Castillo later stabbed Jordan to death during an argument, allegedly stemming from Castillo’s displeasure that Jordan was dating his mother.

The jury found that the Briad Group is “55 percent responsible” for the slaying. Castillo and his friend – who was in Castillo’s company at the time – were held responsible for the other 45 percent of the incident.
