Livingston Budget Proposed: $47 Tax Increase For Average Homeowner

Livingston, NJ – The Livingston Township Council has put forth a proposed 2016 municipal budget that would mean a tax increase of $47 for the average homeowner.
The proposed budget would include an increase of 1.5 percent in the local purpose tax rate, according to town officials.
Total operating appropriations in the proposed 2016 general fund budget would come to $673,429, a 1.6 percent increase from the 2015 adopted budget.

“The primary contributors to expenditure growth in 2016 are increases in police salaries and wages, debt service, department operating expenses and solid waste management,” town officials stated in a March 14 budget summary.
Excluding increases in debt service funded by the use of additional capital surplus funds, the spending increase for 2016 would be $498,429, a 1.2 percent increase from last year.

A public hearing for the proposed budget is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday, April 25.
