Livingston To Commemmorate 75th Founding Of Israel With Free Party, Flag Raising

A flag raising and a party will be held later this month in Livingston to celebrate the founding of Israel in 1948.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — It was midnight on May 14, 1948, when the new nation of Israel was proclaimed by the Provisional Government of Israel. The U.S. government recognized the government on the same date.

Later in April, the Livingston Celebrates Israel Committee, a subsection of the Livingston Committee for Diversity and Inclusion, will host a party to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Israel's founding.

The event will include music, dancing, kosher food to buy, craft activities, and more.

The party takes place April 26, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

(Separately, Livingston will also Honor Israel with a raising of the Israeli Flag on Sunday, April 23, in front of Livingston’s Town Hall, 357 S. Livingston Ave, at 5 p.m.)

Organizers of the upcoming party on April 26 said, "This event brings together synagogues, Jewish organizations, and the community at large to celebrate our amazing ally in the Middle East ... The party will culminate with the raising of the Israeli Flag and singing of Hatikva."

The public is invited to come to the Livingston Senior and Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave., Livingston.

The theme for the event is "Am Yisrael Chai, Stronger Together at 75!! It is about Jewish Unity and support from the community at large for Israel. Together WE SURVIVE, WE ENDURE, WE THRIVE."

The committee is being chaired by Amanda Jones, a local mother, attorney and commercial real estate agent, who founded non-profit organization: Jewish Mothers and Children, JMAC, in 2016 with the mission of bringing Jewish Mothers together for education, celebration and support of Israel.
